Amanda Ploughman


Amanda formerly held the position of VP Marketing, Shaw Media.

Previously, Amanda served as the Chief Marketing Officer for Pelmorex Media Inc., which operates the broadcasting license for The Weather Network.

Prior to joining Pelmorex, Amanda was President & CEO of MediaCom Canada.  With over $900 million in billings and 250 employees, MediaCom was Canada’s largest media management company located in three offices: Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Amanda joined MediaCom in April 2007 as Managing Partner responsible for the Rogers business.  In October that year she took on the CEO role, with Media Buying Services, The Media Company and Retail Media Inc. brands reporting into her.

Prior to MediaCom, Amanda was Executive Vice President, Director of North American Business Development at Initiative.  There she lead strategic business opportunities with marketers, agency partners and organic growth opportunities with existing clients. As part of this process she oversaw all prospecting and new business pitches.

Amanda had two tenures at Initiative. She joined in 1997 as vice president, group account director on Walt Disney before leaving in 2001, when she had risen to the position of managing director. In 2001 she left Initiative to become managing director at Cossette Marketing’s Toronto office. While at Cossette, she managed McDonald’s Canada advertising, including strategic planning, client service, creative development, finance and media.  She then returned to Initiative in 2002 as Canadian president until taking on the North American role in 2005, based in New York.

She started her career at what is now called M2 Universal, working her way from media assistant to broadcast supervisor.  An industry veteran, Amanda has also held senior positions at Bozell Palmer Bonner, Optimedia/FCB and B-street Communications.

In 2004, Amanda served as a juror for the Cannes Media Lions, the most prestigious media awards in the industry.  She has been involved in numerous professional organizations such as ICA Media Policy Committee and the Advertising Standards Canada Children’s Acceptance Committee, the CMA National Convention and was a board member of the Canadian Media Directors‘ Council.  In 2008 she founded, in partnership with the ICA, Advertising Women of Toronto.   She is on the Advisory Board for Ryerson’s Ted Rogers School of Business and previously sat on the board of Zoom Media.

Amanda earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas School of Journalism and holds minors in both French and business. She also attended INSEAD as part of their executive leadership program. Amanda is married with three young children.
